Hello all. Thank you for joining Southern Demonology yet again. And not just any Southern Demonology, but this is special for a few reasons. The first is it is the season five final episode. And I wanted something special to go out on. You may have noticed a recurring theme with this season. It's featured a lot of our demonology courses, and those have involved both heavy involvement with Chris from the Wandering Road podcast and with Father Mike and Deacon Josh. The, as I refer to them, the dynamic exorcist duo from Georgia.
And to the point where I don't consider whenever they one of these three people appear on my show, it's no longer a guest appearance. It's gone well beyond that. These are what I'm gonna now officially dub regular contributors to Southern Demonology. And the other reason why it's special is this. You know, I have viewed Southern Demonology special for a few reasons. And yes, part of it is a I viewed it as a vehicle for me to be able to use the knowledge and skill set that I gained in school. As you all know, or at least if you've listened for a while, I am a programmer in my day job.
And I've been in this field now for more years than I would care to admit, but yet I still have an overwhelming passion for theology, theodicy, philology, and all the other allergies that you want to throw into the mix. And it's a great way for me to make sure that I keep my skills up. Two, and these are in no particular order, because this one is very important as well. It's a way to, it's a vehicle for education to teach others things that I have learned. And three, it's been a great way for me to learn. There are a lot of topics in which I am not an expert in.
I will never claim to be an expert in something that I'm not, and especially when it comes to the more practical side of the house. It's been phenomenal to have Father Birdsong on and to be able to go over more filled experience, and I have been extremely grateful for that. But the last, and not one that I really have considered all that much, is Southern Demonology presents a path for my own spiritual growth and awakening.
And that's what really kind of makes this one special because we're going to be talking about a subject matter that I truly feel has dramatically impacted my life in more ways than I can probably even conceptualize or rationalize. As you all know, I have suffered from horrendous nightmares my entire life, starting from my earliest memories of when I was three and progressing onward.
And if you listen to my last episode with Father Birdsong, I revealed that ever since I had started wearing these sacred medals of Saint Benedict, and I have two on one that came from the bishop from the Holy Nicolain Church and one from Father Mike himself, that I have not suffered from a single nightmare. And we also I also extended the offer that if anyone else finds themselves in this type of boat, to please reach out to me on any of my social platforms on southerndemonology.
com and I will we will get you a one of these medals, no charge, not looking to charge anything, and it's just more out of a Father Birdsong being willing to give and me being willing, you know, that to give as well. And the topic that we're going to be covering today is generational curse. And the reason I bring up those two topics of dreams and curses is though I'm a very rationally minded individual. I am a programmer and architect and am very scientifically minded. It takes a lot for me to dip outside the realm of science. You have to have extraordinary proof for me to go that route.
That's why I apply the scientific method to almost everything that I do. I am extremely rigorous in my own research and translations. But these nightmares do defy logic because they have actually caused me physical pain. If you go back and listen to the episode of the pain of dreaming demonic, you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. And dreams are not supposed to cause any kind of pain. It doesn't work like that. And in conversations that I've had with Father Mike, there came up the topic of, well, maybe this is something more.
And maybe even more than just your run of the, not that it can ever be called run of the mill, but maybe it's more than just a regular attack of the infernal. In fact, because not only if I have I had this condition, so was my mom, so is my uncle before he passed, maybe this is more of a generational type of curse that we are suffering from. And so I wanted to get Father Mike's input not only on that, but more broadly to go over what are generational curses. Is such a concept even supported within Christianity as we know it today? And what could be some of the remedies for that?
Father Mike, excuse me for going through such a very long intro, but how are you doing today?
I am doing wonderful and I am looking forward to our conversation.
You and I both. Oh, and of course, I'm I do not want to leave out a deacon Josh here. Josh, how are you doing? I'm doing good. Good. Yeah, sorry. My it has been one of the most hectic days I've had at work in quite a while. So you if I have momentary relapses, you just gotta overlook me today. We understand that. So, Father Mike, why don't you kick us off? What is a generational curse? Well, and is anything that I said before contradictory or makes zero sense to you?
Absolutely not. Everything is everything is spot on. And I would as we go into this tonight, I will go ahead and say that tell all our listeners that we pretty much had a part one last evening, and it was it was not discussing it in depth like we will be tonight. It was more of a background and a and a stance on saying this is this is what it is and this is where it comes from.
But yeah, in fact, are you gonna release that on ETC?
Yes, we will as soon as I'm gonna get Josh to take care of all that, and then as I always tell him, y'all do what you gotta do because I am uh when it comes to that stuff, I'm technically ignorant.
So yeah, so just for everyone in listening that doesn't know what we're talking about, we did have a part one to this conversation. And you know, this this conversation is more about taking the entire concept holistically and trying to define it. And the part one that Father Mike will be releasing on his own podcast, Ending the Curse. And if you have not listened to it, highly encourage you to do so because it's phenomenal. It's the place where he, as he says, they like to discuss the hard stuff.
And there is some very hard stuff that comes up on there, such as suicide, and you know, there's a ton. But anyway, I I'm not trying to get off track here.
Oh no, I mean, I I I'm I'm with you and and I would I would actually invite anyone if they have a hard topic that they would like to dive into and get some broader I'm not even gonna say knowledge or wisdom, I'll just say opinions. We don't mind talking about anything. I mean it it it's wide open, but a generational curse. That sounds it sounds so harsh to me. It really does.
Well, it sounds really unbelievable.
Exactly, exactly.
But oh before we get there, yeah, just to finish my thought, which I had kind of interrupted my own train of thought, the part one that we had done, it was really kind of focused on me, and which was from my standpoint was bloody phenomenal, because you know, I got some really targeted advice, and you know, we kind of went through a lot of things, but I wasn't quite sure if it would be truly something that I would want everyone in the world to listen to, so that's why we'll get together and we're doing it this way as well.
So, but I don't want people to be deprived of that part one, because Father Mike went extremely deep on the scriptural passages which really speak to the very concept of that, and it it was amazing to listen to, it really was. So I do encourage you to check that out, but you don't have to listen to that first before this episode. I just want to throw it out there so you can get a complete picture of what's going on. But Father Mike, please continue.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. J J before we get started, that's one thing that I don't ever want you to feel like you have to apologize for, because before we can understand anything, we have to put ourselves in a position to where we can become vulnerable. Although although you said that that episode was more about you, well, it was about you, but but as our famous uh mad scientist Vic Hermanson would say, we're we're made of stories, and that's that's that's part of your story make you and and to see the the way that you are becoming to overcome this thing is to me greatly amazing.
But I have to start back once again because as we start with the concept of a generational curse, I want us to pay attention to the two words generational. In other words, it's it's something that uh not only is affecting me, but has affected everyone in the generations before me and possibly the generations after me. So so we got the we got the we got the family part here, but then all of a sudden we believers in God, we want to understand and know when you know we're we're made in God's image, right? And and and in his light, his likeness, and God is a God of love, you know.
Well, where the heck's this curse coming from? And so that's what we have to wrap our minds around about the term generational curse. And so Romans chapter 6, verse 23, we all know this that the wages, the wages of sin is death. And so we have to ask ourselves, and and what we're diving in tonight, I hope we're about to go in the direction that you want, but but how number one, how is it possible? Number two, and why? You know, we hit the we hit the true theological holy scripture part last night, right?
I mean, we I mean, man, we uncovered and exposed it from wow about gen from Genesis to Revelation, right? I mean, I was joking with JJ earlier today and told him that he brought out the the old time young Pentecostal boy out of me yesterday while we were talking. And but it all started with our first parents. Who was our first parents?
Adam and Eve.
Adam and Eve. That's that's the how. It began there. And and you know, I'll never I'll never forget the old song by Charlie Daniels, the the legend of the legend of Woolly Swamp, I think was the name of the song. And he said, you know, some things in this world we just can't explain. That to come to that concept of how, and it's starting with our first parents, we have to we have to admit that there's a consequence to sin of that original sin that began in the garden. And we have to understand and accept, you know what, we weren't there.
So there's some things you just can't explain, but but we know that it that it is. And see, with that being said, that that that original sin, that that fall of the garden, if you will, it it created a cycle that will never end. And it will continue for every generation until one thing happened, and that is the intervention and then the acceptance of Christ.
And and one of the things I and and I know I know you said you know that this wasn't about you, but I repeated I repeated last night many times uh the word 200 years, and you know what I was talking about, and and if you want that shared, you you're welcome to share it, but 200 years that it went through, and now all of a sudden it's brought back and it's starting to be dealt with. And this is the reason why it's going to help everyone else that may be listening to this podcast. So we have the how, we have how is it possible, and we have the why.
We have you know it started with Adam and Eve, the consequence of sin and how it continues on from generation to generation. But the biggest, the biggest question, I think, JJ, that many of us want to understand is why. Why do things like that happen? And the reason and the and the reason why things like that happen is well to be honest with you, JJ, it's it's the enemy's job from the from the from the time that Satan was booted out of heaven, his fall.
You know, Christ said he saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven, you know, because he he he got well he got ticked off at God because he created the the race of the the race of man. And so and so he turns against God and and he says, you know what, you know what? I'm I'm gonna do this. I'm gonna reach your level and I'm gonna take every one of your creations away from you.
So when bad things it's not it's not only the fact that because honestly, that that part uh confused me a little bit because if we think about it, the anything of the spirit, whether they be angels or the infernal, are so much greater than people. So why would Lucifer get that angry? And I think Father Martin kind of put it best, where he said that the act of creation is never a step-by-step plan for the Almighty. It's rather a moment that happens in perpetuity because the eternal is omnipresent and omniscient.
And so when he created us, he also knew that he was going to become to degrade himself and to become human and to take our flesh, and that is what pissed off the devil more than anything in the world to elevate the flesh and make it part of the godhead. So I I just I've always found his explanation, which you can see in the appendices of hostage to the devil, just beautiful and poetic. And I didn't mean to cut you off.
Oh no, I mean I mean because because it's because it's absolutely correct. I mean it's it's and it's and it's amazing that you know but but Lucifer he he he did get angry because because of that flesh and that flesh brought about something. It brought about a free will choice. And and and why people may ask why is that so important? Well that's so important because because if I have a free will choice to worship God inside of a true devotion, what did I just say? A true devotion, a heartfelt, true covenantal relationship.
I was just not spirit created to worship, but I was created spirit, soul, and body with a choice, even in my flesh, to worship God. And that takes a devotion even further. And Lucifer got jealous of that. Oh, is their love going to be greater than mine? You know? You know, I I mean, but I you know, from for me and my small thing, I'm I'm thinking to myself, okay, Lucifer, you're the you're the son of the morning star. You're the number one guy up there, and you're gonna get ticked off. But he did, you know, but you know, but that's that's that's that's why he hates us so much.
And and I'll I'll never forget the time that we you caught your very first E VP. And my explanation for that was we pissed the enemy off.
Absolutely. So one sound was enough to send chills down your spine. Oh gosh.
But but that's that's that's the driving force, if you will. And so the enemy has taken that original sin. Okay, I got 'em now. I got 'em. And and but but you know, you know, although that term original sin, it began in three fifty. Through 430 with St. Augustine, but we know that it came from Adam and Eve. And for anyone that would like to go back and read through that to get a good historical lesson for that, all you gotta do is just go to Genesis chapter 3. In Genesis chapter 3, we'll explain a generational curse from beginning to end.
I mean, for for instance, what was the first consequence of a generational curse that happened out of original sin with Adam and Eve? We all know that that Abel was killed by the hand of Cain, right? Why? Because that sin had entered the heart of man. That race of man was defiled in the soul and even in the body of man. But that consequence that affect the soullish realm of man in trying to understand the how and the why and how it continues. I mean, we have to think about the lives that we're living in right now.
You know, in our own lives, we can see patterns that we so innocently do not pay attention to, but maybe sometimes we should pay attention to them because many families, I mean, even my own family's been affected by this throughout throughout generations as well. But why does why do so many families have some type of major trauma every generation? Why do so many families, generationally speaking, fight with addictions, you know? Well, grandma had it, my mama had it, now I had it, oh, it's just genetic. Well, is it? Is it really?
Yeah, and then if you come to non even like blatantly non-genetic markers, bad dreams or bad luck or whatever else it may be, it's you know, like in for example, like I didn't pay attention to this myself. I think, as I remarked to Father Mike yesterday, you you Southerners are renowned for stoically accepting their lot in life. We just accept it and we go about it. Doesn't matter how dire it is, it's just the way that it is. What are you gonna do about it?
And that's the way I have been with these nightmares that I spoke about before, and not just the nightmares, but like the other part of yesterday was the fact that I felt like I was flayed open because I was going through a lot of personal stuff. But the other piece to this, and if you've listened to my back catalog, you may know about it. And to me, this is one of the more embarrassing things that I have talked about on Southern Demonology, and yet I'm going to do it again. God help my soul, is the fact that I've felt this constant need to bet the devil my soul.
And this started when I was six or seven and has continued, and it faded away when I was in my late 20s, and then after talking about it, it came back with a vengeance, and yet wearing these medals around my neck constantly, I have no longer had either one of these plague me. Now it's been three months, still haven't had a nightmare, and that's never happened before. I haven't felt the need to bet, and even after talking about it quite a few times, still nothing. And I didn't get these medals for that purpose, I just did it to protect against the infernal, and yet here I am.
I didn't even realize that it had been quite a while until something called my attention to it. And I'm like, you know what? That's true. I hadn't really happened before. So anyway, recognizing these patterns is extremely important. I just wanted to emphasize that by going through my own personal experience. Sorry about that, Father.
Oh no, I mean, oh no, absolutely. I mean in in I mean, e in these patterns, these patterns can can be as harsh as I mean, I've known families that every generation there's there's been a suicide. There's been great physical issues with some living in in even living in severe poverty. I'm talking about severe poverty. And sometimes that happens by some circumstances, but but for some reason, just generation after generation after generation, something has gone amiss and just tore people to pieces, and they don't realize that that they're walking in the midst of a curse.
You know, it it kind of reminds, it kind of reminds me of oh, I always I always forget the name of it, but but I'm so fascinated by the story that you share of the of the woods in Japan.
Oh, okay, God.
I mean, yeah, and and see, and see that that is I can I can understand part of it, but on the other hand, on the other side of the coin, it's like that land, if you will, is calling out for people to come and do that. And that's a curse, JJ.
Yeah, and actually, I wanted to bring that back to our conversation. So just as so we know that there are two types of exorcism. There's exorcism of person, and then there's exorcism of place, and generational curses follow that same pattern, does it not? You can have affected by people, but it can also affect the land itself.
Yes, and I would say I would say more times than not, it would be both because of the the generation in the family ties in the bloodline, if you will.
That that would make sense. Actually, do you want to know a little piece of biblical Hebrew tonight?
Yes, go for it.
The word for generation, very complex word. You ready? Door.
Door wow, yep.
It's door, it's just generation. Actually, we used to say a little Hebrew poem, who is he, he is she, and dog is fish. Anyway, that's neither here nor there.
That's that's funny. Because of our common day society, you know, a lot of people would when they start hearing things like the subject that we're talking about right now, and and and and why bad things happen and this and that and the other, you know, there's a there's a great stigma upon that that doesn't need to be. And and and it's just because of our society today. And and like you said, we grew up in the south, so we were expected to whatever's going on with our life to suck it up and take our lot in life and move on and make it better, you know. Well, you know, you know what?
Sometimes that's not possible. And the answer that everyone, this is one of my pet peeves, by the way. Let me go on record tonight saying that time does not heal all wounds. How many times, how many times have we heard that, you know, well, just give it a time. Time heals all wounds. Well, you know what? That's a lie, because curses dwell upon time, it expounds time, and it bypasses time.
Well, they can grow more powerful with time, does it not?
Exactly, exactly. And the the only thing that is gonna heal a curse is a blessing. The only thing that is going to heal a darkness in our life is the introduction of light into our life. So when we're dealing with a demonic generational curse brought upon, not our fault, maybe not, but just by original sin. Can that be done, Father Mike? Well, well, yes, but the only the only thing that heals all wounds is Christ. And so, and so with that being said, let's say that I'm walking through this curse now, right? Well, I I think I think one of your questions was how do we overcome it?
Is it is it just the metal that you're wearing right now? No, it isn't. The only way to do away with this torment in your life is is healing. And so, how does that come about? Let's say my family's played, well, just think of one of the worst things that you can, and it's been going on from generation to generation, generation. I mean, we're worried. When's it gonna stop? Is it gonna happen to me? You know, I I was I was telling someone not too long ago, you know, I turned what this past Wednesday, 55 this past Wednesday, and it just hit me out of the blue.
And you know, I I I should not even be thinking about things like this. But all except one, every bird song male from generation to generation to generation died in their 50s.
Oh dear lauren.
So I was so I'm like, okay, how much how much time I got left? You know, if I and if I if I dwell on that, I'm gonna allow it to overtake me. But that curse has been lifted off of me because who is within me? And so, and so, where do we begin this reconciling of the taking away of this generational curse that we're being played by? What was the final straw that broke the count's back per se with the nightmares that you were having? What finally stopped the generational curse of so-and-so's family of someone committing suicide out of every generation?
Well, it all first starts with something called the sacrament of reconciliation. And that's where you begin. Because that sacrament of reconciliation, it brings a it brings a powerful grace into our life that heals us. And hear what I'm about to say very clearly. I'm I'm not talking about just forgiveness. You with me? I can be forgiven, but for something to be taken away, I have to be healed also. Right.
And you know, through Hebrew or excuse me, the Greek word, that that's where we get the word sozo from that that talks about the fullness of that, that salvation, that healing, and that deliverance from a circumstance. And and so, so that is the only thing that will break that yoke of bondage from these curses. For instance, for instance, we were talking about, oh, it was on one of our podcasts, I forget which one it was, but we were we were we were talking about someone putting a curse on their daughter's husband just because she didn't like him.
And everything, everything started going awry, you know, and then finally it figured out, oh, okay, they had a curse put upon them. Well, they had they had to be healed from that curse. Something had to step in, a a change had to be made. And so the story that you have, I wouldn't, I would always be vulnerable enough to share it if I was you. But but it it that's that is that is part of the reason why, because you allowed something sacred or something, or you allowed a sacramental of a sacrament enter into your life and say, you know what, enough's enough. That's how you stop it.
The the the the light has to take over the darkness, and see, but there's a step two to that as well. Not not only not only are these generational curses taken away by the sacrament of reconciliation, and those of you that don't know what the sacrament of reconciliation is, it's called penance or confession. That's a whole nother podcast, that's a whole nother episode. But but anyway, but but but part two of that is there's a there there is a second sacrament that we need to be reaching out to to stop these curses in our lives called Holy Eucharist.
If we remember correctly, in in the in the book of is it Saint Luke or St. John, it doesn't matter, but but but if you remember correctly, Christ tells the woman at the well, this the the the Samaritan woman at the well, as a matter of fact, he he says to her, if you knew the gift of God, and and see you and I know firsthand that that Christ was talking about himself, that he was this gift that could bring her healing in every one of her circle circumstances.
And we also see the another side of that point is is that in John chapter 6, Christ says himself, unless you eat of my flesh and drink of my blood, you have no life in you. That's how powerful the sacraments are. So we have tools, if you will, to overcome these curses that were brought about, not necessarily our own fault, but the faults of our former generations. It is it is hard, it's very hard to put that into a scientific term unless we want to bring up maybe something about the butterfly effect. Someone done something, caused a curse to come into their life.
Not only did it affect them, but it started affecting every generation afterwards until that that effect was blocked by creating a more broader and more effective effect. Does that make does that did I just make any bit of sense whatsoever with that?
No, you didn't. That makes total sense. If if darkness has fallen upon you, the only way to banish it is to go into the light.
Oh, yeah, yeah, exactly right. And then and then one of the last things that I gotta say, we we we've covered the why, we've covered the the when, we've covered the how, and if we need to go back to any of them, that that's fine. But now in in in and how to stop it. We we we talked about the sacrament of reconciliation, we've we've we've spoken about the the sacrament of holy eucharist, but we have to remember, we have to remember how how are we affected by sin. Well, it's thought, word, and deed, right?
And these these three that the that that we're that well the first two covers pretty much of that, but there's also a third one about word, because something powerful can happen when I confess the word. So so so finally, but certainly not least, we need to vocalize until a change happens that I need healing, I need Christ. And you may not have got it yet, but but I sent you a prayer for generational healing. And and of course, you know that that if we were closer together, I would get I would get with you with this.
But but but listen to this and listen to how it affects generational cursings. And this this would this would be myself or you or anyone else. And it doesn't have to be word for word, because I think true prayer needs to come from your heart. That is something between you and God. But listen, listen to this in the name of Jesus and by his authority, in which everything must bow, I come against and renounce as a penitential act any and every curse through thought, word, and deed that may have been directed to any member of my family bloodline.
And I ask that through this holy sacrament of reconciliation and by Christ's passion, that every negative word, vain imagination, and every curse on my family may be broken in the holy name of Jesus as spoken by the prophet Isaiah. I forgive, I bless, and I release those who spoke into existence these said curses. And Lord bless those who persecute me and do so by sending your Holy Spirit to lead them to repentance, healing, and to freedom.
I now, in the name of Jesus Christ, pray that all demonic entrapment that may be held upon my family line because of the disobedience of any of my ancestors, I declare all of this to be absolutely null and void by the authority of the holy name of Jesus. And in that name of Jesus, I renounce all work of evil together with any occultic practices of my ancestors, and I subscribe myself to Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Savior, both now and forever, as I renew my baptismal vows. Amen. And that is that is basically what just took place is that we renewed our baptismal vows.
And in by doing that, we we remind ourselves that we have been marked and sealed not only by holy water, but by sacred chrism oil that I've been marked as Christ on. And that that power of these hormonal generational curses does not have authority over me anymore, nor will it have authority over my seed. And so to get to what I would call a full answer of what is a generational curse, it is a darkness that affects the seed of man. That's something to think about. But that came to me today. I mean, I was like, God, what how can I put it into very simple terms?
And I heard a darkness that affects the seed of man, and that, my friends, is that defines original sin.
True, very true. So I I did want to take a quick step back and give a little bit more of a background in the curses before I move forward with my next set of questions for you, Father Mike, if you don't mind.
Okay, okay.
And that is we in the western side of the world typically only know curses through, say, voodoo dolls or other types of mediums, right? And I'm not discounting those, but I think if we look to more of our eastern friends and neighbors, you'll see more of how this can actually work. There's two types of curses, especially that you find within Japan, and that is Naroi and another one, which is kind of a corrupted divinity that touches down. But essentially, it doesn't really matter your own actions.
If you happen to stumble across it, then it's gonna snag you up into its into its claws and not let you go. And you have to get blessed in order to rid yourself of that, and the same is true here. For example, I think that well, A, I, you know, my own father practiced black magic. That could have easily left its stain upon me, but I think it goes deeper than that. I think I've often described where I'm from a patchwork.
It's a land in which every single plot that you go to seems to have its own set of ghost stories, its own set of horrors, and you can take your pick amongst all of the horrible things that happen in order to you know get your idea of what's going on, but it can simply be the matter of you existing in this place or walking past it or whatever it may be, but it can latch onto you, and this is sort of the power of these curses, and sometimes they can be extremely insidious and affect only one part of your life.
Sometimes they can go extremely deep and shape almost everything about your existence, and that's why it's so important to be able to cover this. And Father Mike, I want it to get you to share because I don't want this just to be filtered through my own experience. I want it to get you to go through some of the examples of generational curses that you have encountered during your very long tenure as an exorcist, if you wouldn't mind. Well not to put you on the spot.
No, wait, no, I'm I'm trying, I'm trying to think where to begin because I can think of I can think of at least three just right off the top of my head. And that's you know, you know, one of the I don't know how I want to put it, I don't want to use the term greatest, but the one of the most, I'll just use the word astronomical situations. How about that? It was something that you couldn't explain. But every the there was a couple that were going through a very, very hard time. And on the surface, they seemed like the perfect couple.
And the beginning of this is not going to make any sense whatsoever. I mean, that's why I'm glad you asked me the question. Is because it's because you mentioned whether we were directly or indirectly responsible for receiving said curse when you were talking about the ones from Japan and everything. And and and that even reminds me of me of the one where you can be on the train and just look at someone, and if you look at them a certain way, they give you the eye and put a curse on you. I mean, that is that that's something else to me.
Oh, that you've a line.
Oh, yeah, but but but I say that because I'm reminded in this particular case, what happened was they were there had been no infidelity, there had been, you know, no breaking of covenantal acts within a marriage. They were just headed toward divorce, and both of them didn't know why. And then for some reason, we got together one evening and and and we were talking, and she said, you know what? I'm I'm just I'm just fed up with this whole cycle. I said, when she said the word cycle, it it it hit me right then.
Her parents were divorced, her parents' parents were divorced, her great parents went through a divorce. Wow, and that and the cycle goes on and on and on.
Well, and to be divorced back in the day was Oh, yes, yeah, a lot of stigma attached to that. So it's not something that you can just take lightly, right?
And this the second one, you know, the the the first the first one that that I just said about, and please understand I can't divulge too much on it, but that one that one that one that one caught me by surprise. If I ever had to say I liked one of them, that one I liked that one because she just said it out of the blue. I said, here's what's going on, and now they're still together to this day.
But but the but the the second one, and I'm gonna say this because sometimes things don't end well, and I hesitate to say it because I don't want to bring anyone down, but I also want to make sure that everyone knows the seriousness of what you and I are talking about tonight. In the case of these generational curses that we're talking about, you know, even Christ's own disciples asked because of they ran across this blind person that was blind from birth, remember? And they said, Well, whose fault is it that he was born blind? Was it the child's fault? Was it the parents' fault?
And it was no one's fault but original sin, if you remember. And that's when we go into the the rain also falls on the just and the unjust type of scenarios. And that you know what, you know what, though, that's such an easy way to explain something away. And I don't even like that answer sometimes. You know, it's real easy for you to pour your heart out to me and and you know, and and be really serious, and for me to say, you know, you me just thinking that I gotta come up with an answer and give some lame excuse. Well, you know, the rain falls on the just and the unjust. You know what?
Sometimes that answer is not acceptable. Sometimes I think we need to learn how to say, I don't know.
Amen.
And in the case of the disciples, and and in the case of this thing that I'm about to tell you, dealt with I dealt with a young man that committed uh committed suicide. Now, ladies and gentlemen, that's a hard one. But come to find out, it finally got exposed that every generation before him, someone in that family committed suicide. That is how powerful a generational curse can be. That's the power of the infernal. And but was it was it was it's his fault? He hadn't done anything.
And see, that's when we need to get to the understanding that you know these these things are real, these even these ancient curses that you're talking about from Japan and other in the eastern parts of the world, they're they're they're real. I'm sorry, but our Christianity point of view from curses, that's relatively new than that before Christ. Okay. I mean, I think one one of the one of the greatest books on demonology that I've ever read. I I enjoyed it because it brought some new fresh ideas to me. Josh, what's the what's the name of the book? Is it is it from Scott Hahn or Kahn?
What's his name?
The Jonathan Kahn.
Jonathan Kahn, yeah. The Return of the Gods. Yeah. If you haven't read The Return of the Gods, I would highly recommend it. I have the audio book, and I just like audio books since I had those minor strokes. It's easy for me to comprehend than read something in front of me, but but that that's very good because it brings up a lot of the ancient history of the nature of the demonic. And it drives some very good points home. But but but in these cases, you always ask yourself, well, who sinned? At this young man, he was just in torment.
And when we finally found out what was actually going on, it was too late. Another one, another one that I can think of is is oh gracious, it was it was something it was something simple as a little girl having compulsive earaches all the time. I mean, all the time. Yeah, and and I know some people may want to bring the scientific part into this, and you know, that's fine too. Um you know, it it doesn't matter to me. I'm a full believer that God can work through science and science can work with God if they can just have a meet uh meet a good medium road. You know what I mean?
But even even something as we would think as simple as that, you know, they were they were trying to the doctors couldn't understand why she was having so many, and then and then finally we were in a conversation. She said, wait a minute, you just said something. She said, you know what? My whole family, from the time I can remember, has had upper respiratory issues and ENT issues. So as far as as far as my interaction with that part, those are probably some of the top ones. But but but but remind remember, I said the other side of the coin.
Let me talk about because I really believe, JJ, that that you can't have one without the other. That's that's that's a I think that's a point that I'm coming to. And the reason why I say you can't have one with the other, because it's so intertwined sometimes, is is is some some of the times things that may be happening to you is because of the land. Now, the land, I have seen some uh some very horrible things.
Well, I mean, and I think case in point for that, at least for what I'm aware of, is what we recently covered in this season of House on Haunted Hill.
You see, here we go, JJ. You're doing it to me again, son, because that was actually where I was going. I was I was just about to bring that up. You know, you know, it may be four episodes, four or five episodes ago, we discussed the uh the the house on the hill, and and and it and it and it came up that the land and so many things had gone wrong on it, and so much, and you know, I don't want to talk about it because some of it was just ugly, you know, and some bad things were done to the innocent.
And so when when when something is done to the innocent on a specific piece of land, that that opens the door for that land to become cursed. And anyone that is living there, if they are not careful, we're gonna fall into that trap that we just talked about. Well, well, who sinned? Well, nobody really sinned. They just fell, they just they just fell prey to it because of the curse that was put on the land.
And you know, you know, and and I hate I hate to mix topics, JJ, but that's part of that's part of why we're gonna talk about what we're gonna talk about tomorrow is is the scripture tells us that my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge. And that's why it's so important to talk about things like this and to bring it up, because we can ever so innocently write off things as just coincidence or just a fact of life. But no, after after 30, I'll say 33 years, I've come to the conclusion that there's something to this generational curse stuff.
And so that's that's one of the things that that I look into right away from now that I used to not look into right away. If I'm dealing with a situation with a person or land, I want family history. And and I expect people to be honest with me because what you do affects me, and vice versa. If you're affected by your father and and you are not healed from that, then your your seed is going to pass on to me, and I'm gonna be affected by what you were affected by your father, who was affected by his father.
And so as as far as the demonic rim, oh yeah, that that is that is right up Satan's alley right there. He loves generational curses because they're hard to they're hard to break, and a lot of people don't want to admit it either. And that's that's a whole nother case.
Well, this is probably gonna come off as sounding like a stupid question, but I'm really beginning to wonder if well what is the difference between a haunted house and a house that's been affected with a generational curse. Could they very well be one and the same? And I'm not trying to oversimplify things.
It is not simple. It is not simple, and it is not an easy question to answer. I'll put it to you in in I'll put it to you this way. For me personally, a house that is quote unquote haunted or a house that is affected by the infernal, in my opinion, is one and the same. And here's the reason why. Because it is total evil. I'll I'll even put it in a in a in a in another term. It is it is anti-christ. That's my answer. One and the same, because what is evil is anti-Christ. I know that's a nugget to chew on.
Well, it it wouldn't make sense. So let's just take the house on Haunted Hill that we covered. The land itself was cursed because an infestation of the inferno.
Correct.
It's not that the land itself inspired it, it's the fact that it was already there and it its evil had essentially seeped into the environment.
Yes.
Yeah, that that makes total sense.
Well, I mean, I mean, I mean, case in point, and we we we mentioned this earlier. If if we remember the account of when Cain slew Abel, generational curse, 101, step one. Even God himself said that Abel's blood was crying out from what? The land. And so that is, I mean, you know, that that that is a good reference point to point to those who want to get a greater understanding of, but nothing can nothing good. Well, you know, you know, back to the house on the hill, part of part of that, and I can share this. The the incident that happened on the land was a act against an innocent.
I'll put it that way. Is that good enough?
That's good enough.
And then and if and then if then what happened next is that the next generation, it even happened inside the home, remember? And so that that's another good example of generation, but it's also another great example of the correlation of why I'm starting to believe that you can't have one without the other.
Okay, well, man, then man. Let me ask you this. I think this we're I'm beginning to get to the whole chicken and the egg kind of dilemma here, and I'm not trying to, but I love it. Let's do it so let's take that violation of an innocent. Okay, did that initial action then become an attraction point for the darkness, or was it the other way around? Did the darkness cause that initial violation, which then served to perpetuate that into the future?
Okay, very doggone good question, JJ. I like that.
And and I don't know if we can come up with an answer. I'm just I'm curious.
Well, let me throw this out there, and I may have to have you repeat it. So let's go back to the beginning. And when I say go back to the beginning, let's go back to Genesis. And and let's uh, as we say in the South, where you and I grew up, let's chal on this for a moment. So God creates man, right? And and and they're they're in the garden, and and God says, you know, you can do whatever you want, you you rule, you have full authority, and you know, we all know the story. And and he says that this there's just one thing, don't eat from this tree.
And so at a point of weakness, Lucifer comes around and and questions Eve, right? And brings about brings about the confusion and the distraction, which that's part of the plague that you and I put up with today. We we we can we can get deceived, we can get distracted, and in the and in a moment of unclarity do something crazy. None of us are immune to that. But remember what I said about ever so innocently things happening? I mean, and and part of that distraction and part of that deceiving was well well, did God really say that you'll die?
Surely God is not going to heal something that he created. See, he he was trying to play that that physical role over.
He wouldn't so if we take that example, then that would argue in favor of the infernal causing the impulse, which causing and led to the evil.
Exactly. The way that I was going to put it was was the infernal the infernal laid down the opening for for the deception, but he did not prescribe the act thereof. Right. Okay. Yeah. Well, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, he he he planted the doubt. He planted the the no God's not gonna kill me, you know, but but but but the the enemy did not play the action part. He just he just the enemy laid the thought and then man performed the action.
Right, okay. Well, what other examples can you think of for the land itself? And I realize it's difficult to separate them mainly because of what we have been talking about that when you have one, you have the other, right?
Right, and I'm I'm I'm trying to think. I mean that you you know, right now, I can't I can't bring anything to mind at this moment, but what I can do, what I can do, and I can promise you this, I can go back through some old files from the past, I'm gonna say even the past three years, and break them apart. And and and and we can and we can have another show about land cursing. And that would be fantastic. And and and actually break down what if we were to break down the exorcism of Satan and falling angels, part one, and then the exorcism of Satan and falling angels from land or region.
I think that those there are there are two, they're different, they're one and the same, but they do need some explanation. I mean, as far as I'm concerned, because I feel the more people are made aware of the difference, the more knowledge, the better off we are, because I truly believe that we need to understand who we're finding. And and especially, especially with tonight's subject about generational curses, we gotta know who the bad guy is.
And I would say that this is one of the other this goes hand in hand on the education portion that I was speaking about before. It's the fact that so many different areas of Christianity neglect to emphasize the effect of the infernal in spiritual warfare. That it leaves people wide open for these things, and it's just as you said, it's important to know who your enemy is, but not just the enemy, but the actions and modus operandi of the enemy as well. If you can recognize the patterns, then you can see what may truly be going on in your own life.
Well, you know, I do have one more, if you'll indulge me.
Go for it.
And and it is not one of my personal cases, per se, but let's let's let's call it my own case, if you will. Talking about me personally, and and and and talking about land and and and the the cursing of land. I'll never forget this. I was a young 21-year-old seminarian in Norleins. Did I say that right? And we were we were in the French quarter. Well, I mean, we were having a blast. We were getting ready to take our second leg of the trip and fly down to Belize, Central America. This was before it turned into a tourist attraction.
But we we were walking along and I was just having a grand do time, and and then all of a sudden, I mean, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I just got physically ill. I mean, sweat pouring off of me, very nauseated to the point of almost gastric disruption. How about that? Or distress. And I mean, I was I was literally sick, and then. Finally, we got out of that one area and and then just all of a sudden out of the blue, I was fine again. And I had to stop and think about it. And then I I stopped and turned around and looked.
I said, a couple of my buddies were like, You okay, you okay, you okay? And they said, Well, you seem fine now. I said, Yeah. I said, Because we're not back there again. He said, What's what was back there? I said, Look, it was the part of the French quarter where all the witchcraft section was, and the selling and makings of voodoo dolls and the chicken feats and all that kind of stuff. So I can can attest to you firsthand that land can be cursed. And see, I was I was a innocent, JJ. I I was an innocent. Tell them about the the old well behind our old house. Oh and the wall. Yeah.
So many years ago, Josh, he was probably I don't know, maybe six or seven, somewhere around there. We lived in an old home, and and looking out in the hallway, you know the old wood paneling from back in the 70s type stuff.
Oh yeah.
That's that's what the the the hallway looked like. It was wood paneling. Well, the the whole house was. But I'm looking at the the hallway, and there was the face of ball on it. I turned away, looked back, saw it again, turned away, looked back, saw it again. Sonny, you see that? Yeah. I said, what do you see? And she described it to me. I said, hmm, something right. So I immediately wanted to have my home blessed. And then part of the practice which which we do when we do something like that, we not only do the inside of the home, but we do the land around the home.
And there was an old well uh back there, which the top of it, it was covered up by wood or like like a wood platform so that nothing could be done in there. And as soon as we got to that part with the holy water, I was not the only one to hear it, but c screams I mean ungodly painful screams were coming out of that well. Really? Really, yes. And I'll never forget his name was Mr. Dewey. He came down the two years I lived there and plowed up a little bit of land for me to plant a garden. I mean, we had that rich black dirt out there. It was it was some good stuff.
And he said he said, Yeah, I'll never forget that old well right there. I said, What about it? Because he perked up my ears. He said, Well, he said, I don't know if it's true or not, but there was a time years and years and years ago he said, I was probably a little boy where people were throwing animal sacrifices down in that well. Dear Lord, why? I don't know. But that explained when that when that holiness when that light hit that darkness from the curse of the land, you know, that's when those screams came out.
And not to mention the two years after that that he plowed up my garden, had a good crops.
So there you go. Well, Father Mike, I can and Deacon Josh, I cannot tell y'all enough how much I appreciate y'all joining us for this final one. Is there anything else that you wanted to add before we close out? No, I just hope we did it justice. You did in my book. Very good. I couldn't ask for anything more. And I really, yeah, it's been phenomenal.
I do want to say one thing to you, and I I I haven't I haven't been able to shake it since last night. If I if I pause the recording, it'll be all right, right? No, no, keep keep just keep going. Okay, well, well, if if I haven't been able to shake it since last night, and I and and and this and this is what I wanted to say. I saw, and I might have been taking it the wrong way, and this is nothing bad, it's good. I I think I was seeing a part of JJ that was really being affected by the conversation last night.
Oh, there is absolutely zero question about that.
I have I could see it in your eyes, I could see it. I mean, it was like an overwhelming experience.
It was almost painful.
When you say flayed open, uh, is I mean you mean just laid bare.
Well, like, because I I'm the type of person that literally walks around with 15 filters running constantly. I chew over every single response and word before it ever gets out of my mouth. And that's one of the main reasons why I simply do not drink because I've experienced all of those filters crashing down and no good thing ever comes out of that run. So and yesterday was very much akin to those filters being cast aside, and I I welcomed it on one hand, and on the other, it made me inwardly cringe, if that makes any sense.
What the hell are you about to put me through?
No, but this was something that I had asked for, because uh I think we covered this last night, and I have yet to really prep it.
We were recording an episode of the paranormal rundown, and father Mike couldn't make it that night, and this was just a few days ago, and it was Vic, Dave, and I sitting around talking, and I brought up the fact that I still hadn't had any nightmares, and we took a break and we actually kind of delved into that a little bit, and Dave had brought up the idea of well, it's great that you're wearing these medals of Saint Benedict around your neck, and they're kind of you know keeping everything at bay, but maybe you want to talk to Father Mike about seeking a more permanent remedy.
And I'm like, Well, I never even thought about that. That's a phenomenal idea. See, I never claimed to think of everything by any stretch of the word, and so that's why I I reached out to Father Mike and was like, Hey, this is something I would like to explore with you at some point, and it turned into a what two-hour conversation. Yes, it was and it it was extremely powerful for me.
And they was there was only there was only within it was over two hours, and it was only one three-minute break in there. So it was wide open from beginning to end. And today I was like, dang boy, you just you just you just preached for two hours last night. That's all you did.
And I I thoroughly enjoyed that. Not only did it feel like I was en masse, but in a good way, not not in negative, right? But I also felt healed. I won't say it was complete, right? Just like what happens within exorcisms of the home.
Yep.
It's usually not a one-and-done type of thing, it's not like exorcism of a person, it's not a one-and-done type of thing. This is not Hollywood. It the more entrenched something is, the longer it takes. But yet I feel that yesterday was a first step in a healing journey for me. And yeah, it may not have been comfortable, but it was needed.
Yeah. For step two, I don't want you to take those off until you feel ready, okay? But for step two, I would like for you to do one thing tonight if you if you have any. Well, no, but I want you to take one of them and put it inside your pillowcase.
Okay.
That way when you take it off one night, your head is still on it. But it's not choking you.
Well, this is something I've been rather curious about. Should I take these off for a night and see what happens?
I would. I would I would take them off and just set them beside you on your nightstand. That would that way, that way they're right there beside you. You you you you know they're there. And and always remember, although they're on your body right now, and please understand, I know I know the security of that, okay? But also, also they serve as a sign and a symbol of the providence of God for you. And and with them being beside you on your nightstand, you can still see them. You know they're there.
They are not Christ, but a part of Christ's divinity that is sitting right beside you on your nightstand. Okay.
And that and that's and that's how we look at it. Just like the the conversation we had on icons one time, they're those windows of heaven, you know, that they're a visible sign and symbol to do one thing, and that's and that's just to remind JJ, hey, I got you, buddy. I might not be around your neck right now, but but I'm but I'm right here beside you. I ain't left you.
Well, I appreciate that, Father.
That's the way I would I would look at it for what it's worth. Yeah.
I know that y'all have heard this many a time, and I'm to the point where I can recite it myself. So I'm going to take a stab at this first, if you don't mind, Father Mike. All right. You can find Father Mike and Deacon Josh and a variety of different places at Facebook. He is go ahead and say it, Father Mike.
St. Michael and All Angels, Charismatic Episcopal Church, or Mike Birdsong on Facebook.
But you can also find him on bookpatch.com, absolutely, where he has written five different phenomenal books. Cannot recommend that enough. I will have a link to that in the show notes. And then Deacon Josh has started his own hand-made rosary prayer beads, and that is blowing up, by the way, etc. on Etsy, uh called Bird Songs Blessings. I have three of them: an enlarged version of the Saint Benedict medal, in addition to a set of rosary and a prayer beads, and they are just absolutely gorgeous. In fact, I did an unboxing of the first two, and which you can find on TikTok and YouTube.
But anything else you wanted to add to that?
Oh, I'll add that Josh is gonna add something. He's gonna that you know the prayer ropes that he's that he does as well. Yeah, he he's gonna make a little shorter version, but turn it into like a keychain as well, and so that will become available soon.
And I also have some that are gonna be making, I got some new materials coming in to do a version of the prayer rope that's not leather that actually uses a um rattle satin material, and so those should be released soon.
Well, you tell me when they are, I will put in the order for myself.
You know what, JJ, can we have five more minutes? Yeah, yeah, just five for those that may be as ignorant as I was in the beginning. What folks what folks fail to realize is you've heard me say this, I was the king of Protestantism at one time. But Josh, can you explain the difference between the and see I did not realize this, but can you explain the difference between the Anglican, the Roman Catholic, and the Orthodox rosaries in prayer ropes and stuff like that, where people will understand what you have and what you're making?
Oh yeah.
Okay.
The Catholic rosary, it has a set of sections of ten beads or called decades. They go all the way around the rosary. As you're going through them on certain days, you would contemplate five mysteries, five holy mysteries, sorrowful, joyful, and glorious mysteries. Well, also the loot, the luminous mysteries now, but they're all different mysteries from the gospels that you're contemplating as you're praying through those beads.
The sorrowful mysteries, for example, you're contemplating on the passion of Christ, the agony in the garden, the scourging of the pillar, crowding with thorns, bearing the cross, and the crucifixion. And the the Anglican version has four sets, seven beads, so they call weeks, and you go through, you pray through those just reciting different Psalms or the Jesus prayer. The Orthodox version is a continuous set of 33 knots that symbolizes the years of Christ's life. And as you're praying for each one of those knots, you're praying the the Jesus prayer.
Gotcha.
And that in the Jesus prayers, Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on the Lord. And that's that's how simple it is, but so very powerful. And see, you see, they JJ, it's amazing, it's amazing to me that I graduated Sumacon barely, and Josh is going to graduate with a 4.0. So he he's surpassing his daddy now, big time.
Well, what you make are works of art, Josh. So I really appreciate it.
The important thing to remember though, because people like to get hung up on certain prayers, especially when it comes to the Catholic Rosary.
You're starting a whole new episode now.
Is that you all you're starting the rosary at the cross and you end it on the cross. So you're always starting a session with Christ and ending it with Christ.
There you go. Yeah, everyone, thank you very much for tuning in to this one particular episode, and for all of the previous episodes in season five. I have been extremely proud of the fact that we have gotten these classes on demonology mostly out of the way. There's still a few other topics that we are going to cover, but we haven't gotten there yet. Everyone, thank you for everything that you do.
If you don't mind, please like, share, comment, rate, recommend, do whatever you possibly can because even I've been around for a while, and I'm lucky to have the number of people that listen to me, but it's still compared to other podcasts, it's minuscule, and I would love to be able to reach a wider audience. So if you could do anything to help with that effort, I would thoroughly appreciate that. And that goes not just for Southern Demonology, but also for Ending the Curse and for the Paranormal Rundown, which we run with the Dort crew. All of these would be phenomenally appreciated.
But absolutely, as always, I am JJ with Southern Demonology. I thoroughly appreciate you, and as always, stay safe out there.
Absolutely. And I would encourage everyone to become a patron. I love the early access to the shows that we get. If you can afford a 20-ounce Diet Coke, you can afford to be a patron of JJ in Southern Demonology.
